ITINERARY #2
A RANGER LIFE
An overnight visit to Prek Toal bird sanctuary,
traditional floating village, OSMOSE projects and
spending one night in a community-based homestay
(Available from September to March)
Day 1
13:30 Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Siem Reap, followed by a car or minivan transfer to
the port, which takes approximately 30-40 minutes. From there, a boat will take you on a 1 to 1.5-hour
voyage to Prek Toal floating village, passing through the flooded forest and the expansive lake. During the
journey, your OSMOSE guide will provide insights into the distinctive hydrological system, ecosystem of the
lake, and its diverse flora and fauna.
Upon reaching the floating village, your visit will commence with an exploration of the water-hyacinth
handicraft workshop. Following this, you'll board a traditional Khmer paddle boat to experience how the local
community has adapted to their ever-changing, floating environment. You'll have the opportunity to visit a
family residing in a floating house to observe their unique customs and engage in a conversation about the
challenges and differences of living on the water. The journey continues with visits to crocodile farms, fish
farms, floating schools, and floating gardens. This is a remarkable chance to witness an extraordinary way
of life.“
16:30 Following that, you will partake in a Khmer cooking lesson. Under the guidance of the cooking team from
the Community Restaurant in the floating village, you will be taught how to prepare various Khmer dishes
17:30 You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of the lake and witness the stunning
sunset in the village. A traditional dinner will be served at the Community Restaurant before the boat
transports you to the family who will host your stay in their floating home.
Day 2
06:30 After breakfast (or earlier for those interested in early bird watching), you will switch to a different boat for a
visit to the bird sanctuary, accompanied by a local ranger. En route, your guide's expertise in birds and the
flooded forest will provide you with the best opportunities to observe and comprehend this intricate natural
ecosystem.
You will have the option to ascend to a treetop platform to view bird colonies using telescopes and
binoculars. Please be aware that during the low-water season (February-March), the treetop platform visit is
not feasible. In such cases, you will have more time to enjoy bird watching along the main stream inside the
Bird sanctuary
12:00 You'll return to the floating village to savor a special lunch prepared by the expertly trained cooks at the
Community Floating Restaurant..
